Once Upon A Time...

The history of our pottery goes back thousands of years. Its importance cannot be underestimated, because we do not have a written history. So when one looks upon our contemporary pottery, it becomes a visual record that tells a tale of a people close to the land. Though many designs and their meanings from the ancients have been lost, we still have some prehistoric remains in which to study and duplicate. Certain characteristics of Hopi pottery remain. There is the ever present, a most important perfection of form, and the ease of color or colors, that contain an abstract metaphor filled with a flowing line leading the eye.

This shallow bowl, its coloring and design is a rendition of an actual pottery from the 1940s and depicts the elegance as well as the importance of the bird that was said to have led our people forward during our migrations.
